Chikanery, Harrier and Mysterious Ways captured the top three spots in the 2009 Hosea White PHRF Race on July 19. Breezy conditions and an outgoing tide challenged the 10-boat fleet over the 7.7-mile course. Harrier, Brian Pitt's CS-30, won line honors by taking the lead early in the first leg and never relinquishing it. However, Sean Kane's Thunderbird, Chikanery, sailed a strong race, finishing second overall and first on corrected time. Mark Fitzgerald's Baltic 35, Tonga, was next to finish but was edged for third place on corrected time by Steve Kavanagh's Thunderbird, Mysterious Ways. While the first four finishers battled it out for the top spots the rest of the fleet was sparring for position with lots of lead changes throughout the race. Another Thunderbird, Don Kavanagh's Thunderation was next to finish followed by White Knuckles, Frank Brooker's C&C 24, and Marissa, Dave Ellertson's Pearson 26. Rob Melvin's Bristol 29.9, Northstar, and Paul Kellen's Freedom 25, Sundancer, staged an exciting photo finish with Northstar crossing the line first but Sundancer prevailing on corrected time. Bruce Young's Pawnee 26, Lola, made it's racing debut and was the final finisher. The Race Committee did an excellent job aboard Dizzie Lizzie. Thanks to Bob Silvey, Bill Kane, Maryellen Sullivan, Mark Hanna, Jan Cappadonna and Fran Wynne.
